Kurjey Tsechu is celebrated in Kurjey Lakhang Temple of Bumthang. People of Jakar and Kurjey villages attend the Tsechu to pay obeisance to Guru Rinpoche who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. A giant Buddha Thangka painting known as thongdrel is unfurled during the Tsechu or festival. A monk counts the Buddhist rosary while holy water is distributed. On a drum beat, the huge wall painting is lowered; drum beat by drum beat, for the people to see it.
