Thimphu Tsechu, celebrated in the massive Tasicho Dzong is the largest of all the Tsechu festivals of Bhutan. Celebrated annually in the autumn season for a period of 3- 4 days, this festival is a ceremony of colors with a happy amalgamation of the changing nature and the many moods of the Bhutanese culture.The indigenous folk dance performed by both monks and common men with traditionally designed colorful masks is the highlight of the festival. The dances are accompanied by the beats of the drums and cymbals creating a sublime aura. The dances are in various episodes and each episode commemorates the various heroic deeds of Guru Rimponche who introduced Buddhism into Bhutan.The festival is attended by all men and women, teens and children with great rejoice. People are dressed in their finest costumes. This is also an opportunity for social gathering with friends and families.
