Overview
This is a grand tour of South India, covering the major highlights of Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerarala and definitely the best of South India. The trip begins with flight to Chennai-the international gateway city of South India and the capital of Tamilnadu. Tamilnadu-the land of Tamils is the true heartland of South India and is the heartland of Dravidian civilization, an ancient culture distinguished by unique customs. Hindu pilgrims from the world pour into the ancient sites of Kanchipuram, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam , Trichy, Tanjore, Madurai, Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram. We explore some of South India’s finest rock carvings in laid-back city of Mamallapuram( Mahabalipuram), experience a toy train ride and stay in a Maharaja’s Palace and walk through the beautiful hills of Ooty, and experience a taste of France in Pondichery-a former French colony. We will also join the band of pilgrims and devotees filling into Madurai’s Sri Meenakshi Temple.
At Kanyakumari-the southernmost tip of India, we watch the sun rise and set over two oceans and then we drive to the laidback beaches of Kerala in Kovalam. If Tamilnadu is the cultural heartland of South India, Kerala’s beaches and backwaters stir the romantic, sun loving ideas of the travelers and it has become the “must go” destination. We take boat trip on the intricate system of rivers, canal, lakes and lagoons, drifting by villages, paddy fields and coconut grooves. We go elephant and other wildlife spotting in Periyar Wildlife Reserve and spotting band of wild elephants and wildlife in Periyar National Park. We will also enjoy Kathakali dance performance-an astonishing blend of dance, pantomime and religious play. Karnataka is an enchanting mix of natural attractions and superb historic architecture where there is a marvelous marriage of the modern and the old. It's magnificent monuments, temples, palaces and beaches are a treat for our senses. We wander mesmerized through Mysore’s palaces, and the silks and sandalwood iconography and get amazed by the sculptued gods, dancers and elephants of the Hoysala temples of Belure and Halebid.
