Accommodations and facilities
There are limited choices of accommodations in Bhutan and Tibet. With a few exceptions of highly over priced international chain properties, hotels in Bhutan are small with 15 to 20 rooms. The hotels have been categorized by local authorities as A, B, and C, with A being on the top level c at the bottom and naturally we have pick the A category hotels and resorts which are local architecture with Bhutanese décor, well maintained and staffed with the friendly locals. There is disparity in the rooms in most of the hotels and travelers of the same group may end up in two different types of rooms although you have paid the same amount. You will have private bathroom with 24 hour running cold and hot water. They provide some fundamental toiletry supplies but hair dryers, iron and ironing board etc may not be available. Hotels in Paro and Thimphu do have internet access in office or reception areas. There are some new deluxe properties and international chain resorts which are above the traditional classification criteria and in the higher side in terms of price and can be booked with supplemental cost.
Comparing to Bhutan, there are more options in Tibet but we use mid range properties in Tibetan areas of Barkhor. Our choices of hotels are with Tibetan décor and managed by Tibetan and staffed with friendly locals. All hotels do provide private bathroom with 24 hour running hot and cold water but sometime, hot water supply may be disrupted due to power outage. Nepal has the most options so as for accommodations and our preferred properties are 5 star Yak N Yeti Hotel, part of which was a former palace, centrally located and offers all modern amenities. Accommodation in Chitwan will be simple, in safari style resort, yet we will have private bathroom with running hot and cold water. Our accommodation in Pokhara will be in beautiful Fishtail Lodge, situated in the peninsula of Lake Fewa and requires using ferry to get to the hotel.
Hotel listed on the itinerary are suggestions only and during peak season and tours timed with festival, we may not get the same hotels and in that case, we will book you in the similar property or upgrade you to the higher level.

While in Tibet, we stay in an elevation of 3,500m (11, 480 ft) or higher and motor over quite a few high passes with altitude more than 4500m (14,760 ft). On the first day in Lhasa, its normal to experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness that includes dizziness, light headache, disorientation, breathlessness etc but the symptoms should go away in a couple of days or so. The itinerary allows enough acclimatization for you and it’s advisable that you should keep physically fit and start mild exercises like jogging, swimming, cycling or practice some aerobics about 2-3 months ahead of the trip.
